The Problems With Network MarketingOK, before we go any further, let me stress up front that I am a HUGE supporter of home-based business and network marketing in particular. When I think about the potential and simplicity of the model (as I often do) I find it impossible to not get excited about it.That said, 97% of people are apparently "failing", and here’s some of the reasons why:
Products and Prices
This for me has to be the number one problem with Network Marketing today. If you do a quick survey of the NM world you will find a massive list of so-called business opportunities including:- Cash gifting: looks like fancy pyramid schemes to me
- Membership sites: membership of what exactly?
- Marketing systems: more specifically, those where you sell the system via MLM
- Vapourware: anyone got a flat fee mobile service yet?
- Overpriced health supplements: juice that’s more expensive than wine?
- Expensive travel clubs: I can get much better deals from my local travel agent
To compound all this, even if you do find a business with reasonable products you have to be very wary of shipping costs, especially if you are not living in the USA.
Unrealistic Expectations
I will cut to the chase on this one; quite simply, not everyone wants to be a millionaire. Well, maybe they would like to, but they are not looking to build a Donald Trump-like empire based on a few jars of vitamin pills. Or at least, they shouldn’t.As you surf the net, take a look at all the business opportunity offers that pass in front of your eyeballs. Notice how they tend to feature images of an opulent lifestyle, talk about sacking your boss or include screenshots of large wads of cash flowing into bank accounts?
The marketing efforts are focused around appealing to our natural laziness, our desire to ideally be financially free, and a lottery mentality (oh come now, you know there’s very little odds of actually winning lotto don’t you?)
Too Much To Learn
Much of the online implementation of network marketing is based around a few core ideas; "attraction marketing", building a mailing list, putting red-hot marketing copy in front of the people on your list, and building relationships with your prospects. That’s great, that’s a wonderful way to build a business, but if you don’t have the time or skills to build web pages, generate traffic (visitors) to your pages, and countless other tasks, then you will very soon get frustrated and give up (you will become one of the 97 percent).
The BIG problem here is that most people don’t have all the skills necessary, they don’t have the time, and they don’t have the money to keep buying the training courses and systems that they are told they need.
According to the stats, you can pretty much reckon that 3% of people have the drive and ambition to do everything they need to do and buy everything they need to buy. Why wouldn’t they? These people are chasing massive piles of cash, mansions, cars and poolside lifestyles after all…
Inappropriate Upline Sponsors
Given the environment described above, is it any surprise that the business leaders that emerge are highly-driven individuals, with their own clear view of the world, and a desire to attain great personal wealth? Of course it isn’t, and all power to them, they are almost certain to succeed.BUT… 97% of us are not like them, and they don’t “get” us. Where we see real-world demands on our time and money, they see "excuses" and a "lack of ambition". You certainly shouldn’t expect advice from them on how to earn a few extra bucks – their language is one of total and absolute financial freedom.
That’s fantastic, but anyone who thinks that EVERYONE can become fantastically rich through network marketing has, quite frankly, got rocks in their head!
So What Can Be Done??
Given all these problems, and they are mostly "cultural" issues I think, what can be done that will allow the "97 percent" to succeed? For that, you need to flip over to the solutions page…
